Another week is in the books, and high school football playoffs are less than a month away. Teams around the state are beginning to hit full stride as they make pushes towards coveted postseason berths.
The Taylorsville Tartars certainly fit this description, and their young phenomenon quarterback Ty Keyes has been named Sports601’s Smith County Player of the Week for yet another extraordinary showing this past Friday night.
Keyes, son of Tyrone Keyes and Stacey Sullivan, has been one of the hottest young athletes in the state this fall, and he put on perhaps his best showing yet against Lumberton on Friday night. Keyes completed 15-of-18 pass attempts for 403 yards and four touchdowns, and he also has six rushing attempts for 107 yards and one more touchdown.
Keyes agreed that it was his best performance of the season thus far, but he firmly believes it wouldn’t have happened without the help of his offensive linemen and receivers. When asked what he’s learned through his first two months playing high school ball, Keyes said, “The competition level is very high. You have to bring it every single week.”
Keyes and the Tartars are now 7-1 on the season, and they continue to “bring it” every time they step on the field.
