The Taylorsville Tartars are showing no signs of slowing down any time soon, extending their win streak to 19 games on Friday night with a 41-6 victory on the road versus Enterprise.
“We just came out here and did what we needed to do,” said Coach Mitch Evans after the win. “I didn’t think it was necessarily anything special. We executed well on offense in the first half, scoring on all but one drive. So I’m pleased with what we put on the field tonight.”
Ty Keyes continued a record-setting pace of scoring with three passing touchdowns and one rushing in the first half of play, starting with a 50-yard strike on the second offensive play of the game to Jabez Griffith to assert dominance right out of the gate.
“We were feeling it on offense in the first half,” said Keyes. Senior running back Keyon Bass added another touchdown to the first half total to give the Tartars a commanding 34-0 advantage as they headed to the locker room.
Though the offense came short on a couple opportunities to extend their lead in the third, Evans says the defense did a sound job of carrying them through the drought. “Defensively, we’re as good as we’ve been in the last four or five years,” Evans said. “I’m real proud of what we have going on that side of the ball.”
The Tartars tacked one last touchdown late in the third quarter with a run by junior running back Zylon Hicks. With under three minutes left in regulation, the Bulldogs finally broke free for a long run and score to erase the shutout, resulting in a 41-6 finish.
The win gives Taylorsville a 9-0 overall record and a 2-0 district record to put them atop the standings with just two weeks remaining until the post season begins. However, Evans says it is imperative for his team to continue taking things week by week and not get ahead of themselves. “All you can do is take it one week at a time,” said Evans. “You can’t get caught looking ahead or looking behind. We’ve just got to improve on what we can improve and keep playing solid football.”
Next Friday the Tartars will travel to Heidelberg to take on the Oilers in their third district contest of the month.
