Week 4: Sports601 Smith County Player of the Week

By Brad Crowe

Ty Keyes of Taylorsville has made quite the splash over the course of his first month of high school.

The 14-year old quarterback has the Tartars sitting at 4-0 on the season, leaving behind a trail of perplexed defensive coordinators.

His performance last Friday against the Seminary Bulldogs was more than enough to warrant him being heralded once again as Sports601 Smith County Player of the Week.

In only his fourth career start, Keyes completed 14-of-18 pass attempts for 311 yards and two touchdowns. He also scrambled four times for additional 60 yards and two more touchdowns.

Through one month of the season, the freshman phenomenon has completed 64 percent of his passes for 1,022 yards, averaged 15.4 yards per rush attempt, and accounted for 11 Tartars touchdowns en route to a perfect 4-0 record going into this week’s showdown against the Columbia Wildcats.

Word is spreading quickly of the young, dual-threat quarterback as he continues to light up stadiums week in and week out.

Smith County football fans are in for a real treat if he continues to develop his game and somehow become even better over the next four years.
