If the Pine Belt does not know the name Suntarine “Get” Perkins, get ready because the sophomore do-it-all athlete from Raleigh will soon be a household name.

He is already turning college coaches heads, given the fact he currently fields offers from LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Indiana, and Oregon just to name a few.

Listed as the number 1 prospect for the 2023 class and 39th nationally on 247Sports, Perkins has been on fire in the 2020 season for the Raleigh Lions, and Friday night was no different as he ran for 105 yards on 10 carries, with half of those carries resulting in touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 45 yards, while returning kicks and kicking PATs for the Smith County team.

“It was a good game. We came out a little rusty the first half, but we went to grinding and everyone played well down the stretch,” said Perkins about the performance.

Perkins also talked about his coach, first-year man Ryan Higdon and how the team has responded to him and the rest of the staff.

“He’s been so good for us. He stays on us to get better during the week and to always prepare for the next team up. He has us prepared in district play, and looking to the future for the playoffs to play someone like Jeff Davis County or Seminary where it gets really challenging.”

“He’s such a dynamic player,” said Higdon. “He plays offense, defense, special teams. The kid kicks off for us and kicks PATs, he is just an all-around athlete. He was down there catching kickoffs and asked could he try to kick it, and next thing you know the ball was kicked to the woods.”

Higdon also praised Perkins’ ability t do the little things correctly.

“He is a great blocker. If you ask him to do it, he will. He will find the guy, block him, and keep going to find someone else if needed. He’s a great teammate who is always behind his teammates rooting for them. He’s just an all-around great football player.”
