The Raleigh Lions are beginning to build momentum as the end of the regular season draws near. Their dominant 41-14 victory over the McLaurin Tigers on Friday night all but sealed a postseason berth. Senior running back Kris Moncrief put on a spectacular performance to lead his team in scoring, earning the right to be named Sports601’s Smith County Player of the Week.
Moncrief saw limited touches in the blowout victory, but he maximized his production each time. He had nine carries for 124 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and he also caught two passes for 44 yards and one receiving touchdown.
When asked what he expects from himself each week, Moncrief replied, “to go hard on every play. As a senior, you have to realize you’re a leader on your team, and they feed off of what you do.”
The Lions are now 2-1 in Region 6-3A competition with an opportunity to climb even higher in the seeding with a victory over St. Andrews later this week. The goal for Moncrief and his teammates seems to be simple: “As long as we continue to give 100 percent and play as a team, we feel like we’ll be unstoppable.”
