Thanks in large part to their solid running game, Sumrall’s offense has been on a roll in recent weeks. Ty’Rek Preston continues to play a big role in that success. The junior is coming off one of his best performances of the season, as he rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns in the Bobcats’ 42-25 win over Enterprise. For his efforts, Preston has been named our Sports601 Hattiesburg Player of the Week.
“The blocking was good, and I saw the holes good,” Preston said of his performance. “Just have to thank the offensive line for everything they did.”
“This is two weeks in a row that Ty’Rek’s had over 100 yards rushing,” Sumrall head coach Shannon White said. “We’ve got three running backs we play back there, but he sure has had some big and long runs for us. His vision is good, and he’s running with some power. He’s breaking tackles, and that’s what we wanted to see out of him.”
White calls Preston one of the team’s most-improved players.
“Ty’Rek’s work in the weight room has paid off,” White added. “He’s not a big kid, but he’s powerful and got good leg strength. He’s doing a good job.”
Preston and the Bobcats enter this week’s matchup with Richton having won three-straight. The difference from week one to now, well, it’s pretty simple.
“We’re having a lot of fun,” Preston concluded. “Practice after that first week and the loss, it was hard. After that we bounced back and got better. Just having more fun and playing as a team.”
