Week 6: Sports601 Hattiesburg Player of the Week

For your average defensive back, four interceptions in one season is pretty good. But four in one game? Never gonna happen. Well, unless you’re Oak Grove’s Jarius Reimonenq, who proved last Friday night he’s far from average.

The junior led a stifling defensive effort for the Warriors against George County, picking off four passes in Oak Grove’s 17-7 win. For his efforts, Reimonenq has been named our Sports601 Hattiesburg Player of the Week.

“He had a heckuva game,” Oak Grove head coach Drew Causey said of the performance. “We had kind of moved him around a little bit during the off week and kind of put him back at safety where he could roam a little bit. And try to make some of those plays. He did a heckuva job.”

“The coaches were calling the right coverages, so I was just doing my assignment,” Reimonenq added. “The defensive line and linebackers handled their business, filling gaps and getting pressure on the quarterback. I just read the quarterback’s eyes and went and got the ball.”

Causey called Reimonenq one of the Warriors’ key defensive players heading into this season. Safe to say he’s lived up to those expectations.

“Technique-wise, Jarius is one of the best technicians I’ve been around,” Causey said. “He reminds me a lot of some of those guys that we had in the past like Jordan Duncan, who was very technique-sound.”

Reimonenq and the Warriors (4-1) will be back in action this Friday night at home against Petal (2-3).
