West Jones running back Joshua McDonald felt confident in the game-plan going into last Friday night’s Region 3-5A contest.

“We had a great game plan going into the game,” said McDonald. “Our goal was to [establish] the run and execute on every play.”

McDonald rushed for 113 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns last Friday night in Soso. West Jones, with the help of McDonald, blew out Natchez 42-12. For the quick mathematicians out there, the junior back averaged 9.4 yards per carry.

Much of what McDonald was able to accomplish against Natchez and on the year is in part to his teammates' job in front of him.

“They’ve been working hard at practice,” said McDonald. “They execute every time and give us [running backs] a chance to score.”

The junior back scored back-to-back Mustang touchdowns on runs of six and five yards.

“The outside run was open several times last Friday night,” said McDonald. “[Once again] our line did a great job of setting blocks on the outside.”

McDonald said his job every week is the same.

“My job is to get first downs and score,” said McDonald. “I’ll do anything I need to so that my team gets the win.”

On the season, McDonald has acquired 283 yards on 43 carries and four touchdowns. He's the team's second-leading rusher behind senior Kentrel Pruitt. However, McDonald leads the team in yards per carry, who's had over five carries thus far.
