Britney Gray will continue her soccer career at Meridian Community College.
The South Jones standout signed her LOI Thursday at noon inside the school’s Media Center in Ellisville.
“Playing soccer in college has been a dream of mine,” said Gray. “Just to have this opportunity and join another group of girls is great.
Gray was offered by Meridian following South Jones soccer game versus Neshoba Central on Nov. 30. The game was played on Meridian Community College’s field.
“[Coach Mike Smith] asked me if I had been offered by any other college,” Gray said. “I told him that I didn’t. He told me that if I didn’t have any other offers, he would love for me to come and play center-back for them.”
South Jones assistant coach Matt Smith had nothing but high praises for Gray and her opportunity.
“She’s been a valuable leader,” said Smith. “She’s been playing for us since seventh grade. She is a great kid and plays mainly defense all the time.
“She is very coachable, and that is a major plus. You never have to worry about her not being on time. She is a great student. She’s expressed interest in playing somewhere since she started playing here. We played a non-conference game at Meridian Community College [in November], and coach saw her play and offered her not long after that.”
Gray and the Lady Braves (14-6-1) travel to Long Beach (16-0-1) next Tuesday night for a first-round Class 5A playoff contest.
