Head coach Roger Satcher joined his team near midfield Friday night and congratulated them on a hard fought season.
“Congratulations,” said the South Jones head football coach. “You’ve done it. Our season is over. They said we were going to win two games this year. We’ve won it. Great job.”
His players caught his joking sarcasm.
“Is that what they said we wanted to do,” Satcher added. “No,” they all said together.
South Jones defeated cross-county rival Northeast Jones 28-21 Friday night on The Reservation. The Braves are now 2-2 on the season. Northeast Jones falls to 0-4.

Tied 21-21 with 6:05 left on the game clock, senior quarterback John Mitchell scored the Braves go-ahead touchdown from five-yards out. His touchdown run completed a 38-yard drive that preceded a Northeast Jones fumble. Mitchell exceeded the 100-yard rushing mark on the night with runs of 19, 10 and five on the drive. He finished with 108 yards rushing and one touchdown on 15 attempts and passed for 37 yards on four completions.
Mitchell was picked off twice, though, but Northeast Jones failed to score any points off the turnovers.

Of the nights’ 49 total points, 28 came in the first quarter.
South Jones took advantage of a Northeast Jones fumble in the first minute of play. Sophomore running back Tegarrius Roberts rushed 20-yards to the end zone on the following play. After a successful PAT, South Jones led 7-0 with 11:11 left in the first quarter.
Seniors’ Vekelion Campbell and Chad Moses added touchdown runs of 61 and 43 yards in the quarter. Campbell finished with 65 yards on five carries. Moses rushed for 48 yards on five attempts.
Satcher called the four touchdown night by four different guys a “full team effort.”
Unfortunately, the night wasn’t without significant injury. Northeast Jones senior quarterback Javier “Fafa” Magee rolled his ankle on South Jones’ 1-yard run as he tried to reach for his third score. Magee put the Tigers on the board with 8:59 to go in the first quarter. Answering South Jones’ opening score, Magee found junior wide receiver Jaylon Hudson up the middle for a 50-yard touchdown pass. Magee later drew the Tigers within seven, 21-14, on a 25-yard run in the opening minute of the second quarter.
Northeast Jones head coach Keith Braddock said Magee is likely to miss several weeks with the ankle injury. Junior Mason Smith finished the game at quarterback for the Tigers.
Tigers’ junior running back Tony Barnes tied the score, 21-21, on a 15-yard run with 2:40 left in the third quarter. Northeast Jones attempted to tie the game once again in the final minute, but Chad Moses intercepted a Northeast Jones pass to seal the win for South Jones.
South Jones hits the road next week against Bay High and attempts to go above .500 on the season thus far. Northeast Jones is on the road again, traveling to Bay Springs next Friday.
Kickoffs are scheduled for 7 p.m.
