Northeast Jones ushers in the first official day of MHSAA soccer practice

October’s coolest temperatures came at the right moment Monday morning.

Monday marked the first official day of MHSAA soccer practice.

“This is great,” said Northeast Jones head boys and girls soccer coach Matt Reid. “I woke up this morning and felt the cold temperatures. It’s like the weather knew it was soccer season.”

Both teams converged on the soccer practice field off Northeast Drive Monday afternoon. Reid said efficiency at practice is of major importance with the season’s first game less than three weeks away.

“There’s a lot of excitement out here,” Reid said. “We’ve changed the way we run things out here to be more efficient. We have two great groups out here practicing.

“The coaches and I met in the preseason, and we wanted to be more efficient with our practices. Not to necessarily stay longer, but to utilize our time better while we are out here and work on the things that we need to work on. I think we’re accomplishing that. Things have gone well today.”
