Former Northeast Jones baseball standout Tanner Fenton signed with Jones County Junior College on Monday. Fenton helped the Tigers reach the third round of the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs last season as a senior.
“Tanner is a tremendous young man and a very good baseball player,” said NEJ head coach Jeremy Parker. “He will be an asset to the Bobcats’ baseball program. I am glad that he is getting a shot to continue his baseball career. It’s a shot that he should have gotten sooner.”
During his senior year, Fenton batted .297 in 111 plate appearances. He recorded 26 hits and 16 RBI, including an on-base percentage of .400.
At third base, Fenton held a .720 fielding percentage.
Fenton was a significant part of three recording breaking seasons at NEJ, advancing deeper in the playoffs for three years in a row.
Northeast Jones finished 17-11 in 2016.
