Here are your Jones County Week 6 predictions as picked by James Pugh.
Laurel at South Jones
The mighty have fallen, but not to the levels that change the course of Jones County football. Records can be deceiving, and this week’s Region 3-5A opener between two county rivals is an excellent example of that.Â
South Jones is 3-2 after last Friday night’s 35-20 win over Bay High. Laurel, on the other hand, is 1-3 and is coming off a much-needed bye week. Records suggest that one is quite better than the other, but when schedules are compared side by side, one has been harder than the other.
Laurel will win, and do so easily. The Tornadoes are not the team they used to be, but they haven’t fallen on hard times so much that a team like South Jones could take them down.Â
Prediction: Laurel 45, South Jones 7.
Forest Hill at West Jones
West Jones is in a slightly better position than they were a year ago when it opened Region 3-5A play in Week 6 with a 26-0 win over Forest Hill. On the offensive side, West Jones is unquestionably better (at least on paper), and its defensive front is as strong and dominant as ever.Â
The Mustangs have a legitimate chance of claiming its first Region 3-5A title since 2010. It will begin Friday night with a convincing win over Forest Hill.Â
Prediction: West Jones 34, Forest Hill 6.Â
Note: Northeast Jones has a bye week in Week 6.
