Within minutes South Jones had some breathing room. Andrew Howard’s goal in minute number two of Saturday’s pivotal Region 5-5A matchup put the Braves in a position for a win. Nearly 78 minutes later, along with an additional goal by Jacob Aguero, South Jones held off Laurel on the pitch at R.H. Watkins Stadium 2-1 and improved to 3-2 in Region 5-5A.

The win followed South Jones’ heartbreaking 3-2 loss in double overtime to region and county foe West Jones in Soso less than 24 hours ago.

Both South Jones’ goals came in the first half. Laurel narrowed South’s lead with a goal in the 61st minute and threatened to tie the game with several close calls in the final minutes but was unsuccessful. Johan Munoz scored the lone goal for Laurel.
