Week 10 Jones County Predictions

Week 10 of the MHSAA football season is here. Here are our predictions of the games this week that involve Jones County teams.

West Jones at South Jones

This will be the biggest meeting between the two programs in recent years.

South Jones and West Jones enjoyed monumental wins in Week 9.

South Jones knocked off Region 3-5A new-comer North Pike last Friday night, 45-13. The win was big in this way, with wins over Natchez and North Pike, South Jones is on the inside track of getting its first playoff berth since 2009.

West Jones, on the other hand, comes into Friday night on the heels of its biggest win in recent program history. The Mustangs secured their first playoff berth in two years with a stunning 17-7 win over Laurel last week.

Before Friday night, the pick was easy (at least for me) – go with South Jones. But after the big win for West Jones in Soso, its impossible to pick a winner for this colossal matchup and feel confident with the decision.

Prediction: West Jones +4

Forest Hill at Laurel

This isn’t a season Laurel is used too.

The team’s 17-7 loss to West Jones was scripted if taking into account previous seasons. Laurel, four-time Region 3-5A champs, will go from title holder to possibly three seed contender. It was evident by players reaction, and fans alike, that Laurel doesn’t handle losses too well. There’s no excuse for the fans reaction to last week’s loss toward Laurel’s coaches.

Luckily for Laurel, this week’s opponent can help calm the storm that hasn’t yet settled. Forest Hill is 1-7 on the season, and after Friday night, they will be 1-8.

Prediction: Laurel +28

Northeast Jones at Mendenhall

Northeast Jones faced a tough foe in Week 9. The Tigers fell to Quitman on the road, 41-20.

This week the opponent gets tougher as the Tigers hit the road again to face Mendenhall, who is 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in Region 5-4A.

The Tigers’ (NEJ) defense will be kept on their toes against the Tigers’ (Mendenhall) offense. Mendenhall averages just under 200 passing yards per game and just over 200 yards per game on the ground.

Prediction: Mendenhall +20
