Here are your Jones County Week 12 predictions as picked by James Pugh.
Laurel at Natchez
Don’t be fooled by their records, Laurel (7-3) is a few paces better than Natchez (7-3).
Laurel wrapped up the Region 3-5A title for the fourth time in five years last week with a 40-9 win over North Pike. Natchez, on the other hand, will finish as the third seed in 3-5A.
Maybe a close game to begin with, then the fireworks for Laurel should start.
Prediction: Laurel 49, Natchez 6.
West Jones at Brookhaven
At this time last year, this matchup was played for the Region 3-5A title. This time around its just a regular season finale with no implications.
West Jones has pretty much locked down the No. 2 seed in 3-5A once again, while Brookhaven needed a win against South Jones last week to make the playoffs.
Brookhaven has had some trouble scoring against decent 3-5A opponents this year. They’ll have an even harder time Friday night against arguably one of the best defenses in the state.
Prediction: West Jones 35, Brookhaven 6.
South Jones at Wingfield
South Jones will not make the playoffs for the second season in a row, but they can still salvage the season. A win over Wingfield would keep the Braves from finishing the year off with its first losing season since 2014. Right now, South Jones stands at 5-6.
Prediction: South Jones 42, Wingfield 13.
