Sports601 Player of the Week for Nov. 20-25

Laurel’s impressive playoff run ended at D. I. Patrick Stadium last Friday night.

After back-to-back playoff (upset) wins over Picayune and Brookhaven, and its fifth-straight appearance in the MHSAA Class 5A South State Championship, Laurel’s season came to an abrupt stop. Hattiesburg defeated the reigning 5A South State champs, 33-22.

Laurel finishes the 2017 season, 9-5.

“We are extremely happy for the kids in the way they competed this year,” Laurel head coach Todd Breland said. “Coaches coached as hard as they could, and our players played as hard as they could.”

One such player included junior running back Zias Perryman. Despite the loss, Perryman rushed for 160 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown.

He finishes the season with 1,311 yards on 194 carries and 22 touchdowns.

Perryman’s performance last Friday night earns the junior star our Sports601 Player of the Week award for the week of Nov. 20-25.
