Sylva Bay's first game out of the gate started promising as a blocked field goal kept the Brookhaven Academy Cougars off the board and a first-drive touchdown gave them an early lead, however, Brookhaven Academy responded with 28-straight first-half points to stifle any Saints momentum moving forward.

Sylva Bay struck first with a 60-yard touchdown pass from Paxton Brewer to Malachi Page, giving the Saints a 7-0 lead after a successful PAT with 5:24 remaining in the first quarter.

The Cougars quickly tied things up with a three-minute drive that was capped off by a John Rivers Brown 12-yard touchdown rush and PAT with 2:18 left in the quarter.

Three more Brookhaven Academy scores - all featuring a Fortenberry - gave the Cougars a 28-7 lead as the half ended. The final score of the half happened with just 3.3 seconds remaining after a Sylva Bay interception gave Brookhaven Academy position inside the Saints red zone. From there, Tyler Fortenberry connected with Dylan Fortenberry for a nine-yard touchdown.

Brookhaven Academy put one more score on the board in the second half on a touchdown pass From Fortenberry inside the red zone to bring the score to 35-7.

That scored remained throughout the rest of the half as the final whistle sounded.

Sylva Bay starts their season 0-1 and will travel to Wayne Academy next Friday night.
