Who is Sylva Bay’s best athlete?
Ask head coach Terry Underwood, and his response is quick. “Phillip Anderson.”
“He can run,” said Underwood. “He’s fast and pretty tough for his size. He’s also a competitor.
“When I first got here, I had to figure out on just where to put him. He still plays defensive back [on defense]. He’s also played running back, receiver, at the slot position, and then about mid-season, I settled him down at quarterback. To me is our best overall athlete.”
Each week Anderson proves it on the field, including last Friday night at Benton Academy. Anderson compiled 325 yards of offense in the team’s 34-24 win.
Sylva Bay improved to 2-2 in MAIS AA District 3, and 3-7 on the season.
Of his 325 offensive yards, Anderson rushed for 210 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns. Through the air, he picked up 115 yards on seven completions and two touchdowns.
“He is a competitor,” Underwood added. “He has a huge desire to do well. To me, you need that from all your players. By putting Anderson at quarterback, that helps us out tremendously with what we are trying to do.”
