Jackson Parker 6x4

Sign with Mississippi State baseball. Score four touchdowns. Defeat a district opponent. Become Powerade Player of the Week.

You could say it has been a fun seven days for Stringer’s Jackson Parker. The sophomore helped guide Stringer to a 54-0 victory over Salem last Friday evening.

Parker was 10-of-13 for 235 yards and three passing touchdowns while rushing for 14 yards and a touchdown on the night. He also recorded one tackle on defense. Parker found junior wide receiver Omarion Bridges six times for 151 yards and two touchdowns. He also found Landon Ducksworth three times for 80 yards and one touchdown.

“It’s been a great week. Just a dream come true all-around. Shoutout to the line. They gave me time to throw the ball on Friday night. The team was focused and I was ready to go too,” said Parker.

Parker gave a lot of credit to Bridges, who was his favorite target against Salem.

“He’s a talented player. I’ve never seen anyone have hands like him in a long time. He helps the team a lot and is a really good player for us.”

Head coach Morris Cascio is proud of what his young player has accomplished over the course of 2019.

“He’s leading this team as a first-year starter at quarterback. He’s very talented and a good size kid. He’s got good feet, good arm strength, and he’s able to put the ball on a dime at 40 to 50 yards down the field. It’s just a credit to his athletic ability. He focuses and gets after the kids in the huddle and at practice. He’s just a natural-born leader.”

Cascio didn’t fret over how his quarterback would play with the Mississippi State commitment news spreading like wildfire and potential distractions.

“He’s a very grounded young man. He knows what’s going on and he knew what challenge he was facing Friday night. He was ready to go play and that’s the way he is every day.”

Stringer will look to get another district win as they travel to Mount. Olive to face Dante Durr’s Pirates. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Congratulations to Jackson Parker, Sports601’s Powerade Player of the Week for the Jasper, Jones, Smith and Wayne County area!
