After taking the Region 5-2A Tournament Championship in a 74-53 win over Bay Springs in Taylorsville Friday night, No. 1 region seed Heidelberg remained hot on the basketball court Tuesday night.

The Oilers knocked off West Lincoln, 79-49, at home during the first round of the MHSAA 2A South Playoffs.

Head coach Billy Wright’s team, led by Donovan Parker, Quandarius Bender, and Randarius Hughes, jumped out to a hot start against the Bears. Heidelberg ran off a 22-10 lead in the first period and extended that advantage to 35-17 at the half.

The Oilers went on to gain a 55-30 cushion during the third period and eased through the fourth to capture the victory.

Parker led the Oilers with 18 points. He also added 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Bender finished with 17 points, and Hughes scored 14 and pulled down 14 rebounds.

Heidelberg [24-6] will host the No. 1 seed from Region 8-2A, North Forrest [18-8], Saturday night. The Eagles knocked off Lake to advance to round two. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
