Week 2 Jasper County Predictions

Week 2 of the MHSAA football season is here. The following are our game predictions involving Jasper County teams.

Heidelberg at Southeast Lauderdale

It looks to me like Southeast Lauderdale has improved from last year to this year. They stepped up and knocked off 4A Quitman in week one. Heidelberg knocked off a weak 5A school last Friday. This should have the makings for a good game…for at least two quarters.

Heidelberg 38, SE Lauderdale 14

Philadelphia at Bay Springs

The Bulldogs left no doubt who runs football in West Jasper. They thumped the Red Devils their season lid-lifter. That’s all good and dandy, but there’s a new storm brewing in 2A football. My advice is for the Bulldogs to get off the front porch, and head to the storm shelters. The Philadelphia Tornadoes could be the best team in 2A. The Bulldogs are playing with that fearless swagger lately, but they have yet to face offensive and defensive fronts as good as Philadelphia. Bay Springs has a stable full of running backs, but they are no good unless the big boys up front accept the challenge of blocking Philadelphia. Matter of fact, the bigger challenge will be on the younger, smaller defensive front for Bay Springs. The Tornadoes should blow them off the line every play unless they don’t grow up quickly.

Philadelphia 30, Bay Springs 22

Clarkdale at Stringer

The Devils of Red took a beating in game one, but they took some positive notes away from that loss. On a positive note, they were not hit by the injury like last year. I saw great potential of the Stringer passing game, and it will only get better as the season progresses. I expected more production from their running attack. Is this the week the Red Devil running backs answer the bell? “A-Train” Thomas needs to show these next pack of bulldogs that home turf brings the best outta him.

Sylva-Bay Academy at Winston Academy

Saint faithful want to see their team compete so badly. The players have put in good work that should lead to success. Tri-County gave a sense of what hard work looks like over many years. Work ethic is something Sylva-Bay players must embrace because the game is physically demanding and violent. Once this group is getting used to the new systems they are learning, they will get better. They showed flashes of speed, but they have miles to go to compete with the bigger, better teams on their schedule. Winston is a big team with loads of talent. That spells another dangerous week for the Saints.
