Week 5 Jasper County Predictions

Week 5 of the MHSAA football season is here. The following are our game predictions involving Jasper County teams.

Bay Springs at Northeast Jones

Poor Northeast. They’re dealing with an injury nightmare. They have lost multiple running-backs for the season, and that leaves them with very few options to score. Bay Springs is itching to bounce back offensively from a tough 8-7 loss to West Jones. The Bulldogs are extremely hard to score on. On that note, coach Ben Justice’s Dogs defense should get their first shutout of the year.

Bay Springs 25, Northeast Jones 0

Loyd Star at Stringer

Stringer has proved to be hitting on all cylinders. They handled Mize as if Stringer were a team full of seniors. The thing is, the Red Devils rely heavily on their junior class. The most interesting event to see this Friday night is the 1A dynasty Stringer Marching Band. Poor Hornet fans will lose interest early as their team loses its sting. Backups should get lots of playing time.

Stringer 36, Loyd Star 6

Poplarville at Heidelberg

Oilers have their hands full this week. Poplarville will be the best team they face all year. The Hornets are 4-0 and look to be a contender for 4-A this year. Heidelberg needs to stay healthy and keep this respectable.

Poplarville 32, Heidelberg 13.

Wayne Academy at Sylva-Bay Academy

The Saints are getting better each week. That is a goal that head coach Terry Underwood is constantly preaching. They have competed well other than their season opener. The big question is…Do they know how to win? They must learn that competing is one thing, but closing the deal is another. The coaches cannot keep them from fumbling and making costly mistakes at crucial points of the game. I’m going out on a limb for the Saints. Hopefully, they will close their first deal against their Jaguar rivals.

Sylva Bay 24, Wayne Academy 23.
