Week 9 Jasper County Predictions

Week 9 of the MHSAA football season is here. Here are our predictions of the games this week that involve Jasper County teams.

Bay Springs at Newton

It is week 9! Gosh, where did the time go?

Matchups were pretty weak last week throughout Jasper County, but things get a little more serious this week, especially for the Bulldogs.

Newton has lost two in a row but started the season undefeated for the first five games. They were beaten by two undefeated teams, and the only common opponent with Bay Springs and Newton is Philadelphia. The results were similar.

On Thursday night, I expect The Tigers to fight much better than they did last year. I’m still questionable about how deep Bay Springs can go in the playoffs.

This game has no bearing on playoffs, but it sure will tell a story. Once upon a time, Bay Springs beat Newton regularly. Today that is no longer true. The End.

Newton 33, Bay Springs 28.

Stringer at Salem

Salem has not won a game, and it ain’t look’n good for the Cats this week.

The Red Devils have a few concerns, and they are minimal.

How do they keep their kids up for low competition, and how do they avoid injuries?

No one has a crystal ball for these answers, but my little crystal ball says the Devils will skin the Cats as bad as they want.

Stringer 37, Salem 0.

Clarkdale at Heidelberg

Heidelberg has for-real-deal talent. I saw that with my own eyes against an okay Enterprise team. I’m not convinced they are ready to throw down with stiffer competition, but it’s great timing to have another win at home against Clarkdale. That does nothing but help their chances of improving. The Bulldogs will struggle with the Oiler JV team. Those young mean will play a lot.

Heidelberg 52, Clarkdale 12.

Ben’s Ford Christian at Sylva-Bay Academy

Here’s another key match-up in Jasper County that I find very interesting.

The Saints are playing for a second place spot in their district.

Sylva-Bay has only one win, and so does Ben’s Ford. Don’t write-off these young Saints yet. They could get into the playoffs with two more wins, and I feel like they can make a good case starting Friday.

Sylva Bay 28, Ben’s Ford 14.
