Week 4 of the MHSAA football season is here. The following are our game predictions involving Jasper County teams.
Bay Springs at West Jones
Preseason, I picked this game as a loss for the Bulldogs. West Jones has a former legendary coach for Bay Springs, Scot Pierson. They have one of the top defensive ends in the country, Byron Young. Bay Springs lost too many seniors to keep up with this 5A powerhouse. No way the Bulldogs can hang a ‘W,’ right? The Mustangs have not beaten anyone that makes me think they are a good football team. Bay Springs has shown flashes that they want to be the top of 2A football. I’m going with my home team even though they’re on the road.
Bay Springs 30, West Jones 24
Mize at Stringer
Boy, what a football rivalry over the years… I remember when “The Slanger from Stranger” Heath Graham, J.J. Thigpen, Bubba Brannan, Jody Rowell use to have some packed out battles to get to a State Championship against Mize. It will be nice to see if these two teams bring back those heated rivalries for years to come. Either way, this is a good litmus test for the Devils. They have heated up, while Mize is looking for a signature win to get their season rolling. I hope I’m not a “Corso” curse for the home team. Go Devils!
Stringer 20, Mize 13
Wilkinson County at Heidelberg
I have no clue what Wilkinson County brings to the table, but I would start with a bib if I were the Wildcats, because these Oilers are about to slap some whoop’n sauce all in yo face!
Heidelberg 39, Wilkinson County 12
Brookhaven Academy at Sylva-Bay Academy
As much as I would love to see the Saints win, I’m not sure they are ready to buy everything their coaches are selling. The truth of the matter is, they have been good enough on defense to win two ball games against teams better than them. Brookhaven is the best chance for Sylva-Bay to get their first win. Time to prove this prediction wrong, Saints.
Brookhaven Academy 14, Sylva Bay 13
