James Pugh

Here are your Jones, Jasper, Smith and Wayne County County Week 8 predictions as picked by James Pugh.

Current record: 41-19.

Puckett (5-2) at Bay Springs (6-1)

Bay Springs take notice.

Puckett took down Mize, who was previously unbeaten, last Friday night at home. From what I witnessed, Puckett is athletic enough to hang with Bay Springs - at least for a time.

Puckett’s defense put Mize in several uncomfortable situations and made them go to the air more times than they wanted. Could they do the same for Bay Springs?

Predictions: Bay Springs 28, Puckett 13.

Florence (2-5) at Northeast Jones (3-4)

Northeast Jones opened Region 5-4A with a win for the first time since 2016, defeating previously 4-2 Richland last week 35-6.

The last time Northeast Jones won on opening night of region play, the Tigers finished 6-5 and played in a playoff game vs. Florence, which they lost.

Florence is 2-5 this year and not as strong as they were in 2016. Maybe it’s time for a little redemption in The Jungle.

Prediction: Northeast Jones 28, Florence 24.

Enterprise (6-0) at Mize (6-1)

Enterprise had some trouble with Heidelberg last week before pulling away in the second half. Mize dropped their first game of the season vs. Puckett on the road to open up Region 5-2A play.

Mize would love nothing more than to hand Enterprise its loss of the year and expose the fake Bulldog of the two. And they will.

Prediction: Mize 42, Enterprise 12.

South Jones (1-6) at Jim Hill (1-5)

Both teams need a win badly.

South’s only win thus far came against Northeast Lauderdale, 28-21, and Jim Hill’s only win was at Port Gibson, 26-6.

Who gets that must-needed, desperate win? The team who wins the time of possession.

Prediction: Jim Hill 17, South Jones 14.
