Last Friday night was just another day at the office for Sheldon James. On just seven carries, the PCS senior ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the Bobcats’ 42-13 win over East Rankin Academy. For his efforts, James has need named our Sports601 Hattiesburg Player of the Week.
“We were coming off a tough loss against Jackson Academy. We really wanted to bounce back, so everybody was prepared,” James said. “Offensive line had been working hard in practice all week. Everybody was clicking.”
It was James’ 7th 100-yard rushing performance of the season. Through 10 games, he leads the team and conference in rushing at 1335 yards. He’s also scored 12 touchdowns.
“I try not to look at the stats,” James said. “I try to just do my job and focus on what I have to do. The rest will take care of itself.”
“I’ve surprised myself. But I had been working hard during the offseason and so has this offensive line.”
James is following in the footsteps of PCS legend Isaiah Woullard. Not a bad guy to learn from.
“Work ethic. Isaiah’s the hardest worker I’ve ever been around,” James explained. “In the weight room, running or at practice. In every single area, he is someone to look up to and somebody I try to be like.”
James and the Bobcats (6-4) will be back in action this Thursday night at MRA (6-4).
