Sacred Heart and PCS have formed quite a soccer rivalry in recent years.
“Battle on Bonhomie,” Sacred Heart head coach Joe Falla Jr. said. “We’re just right across the street from each other.”
More often than not, Falla’s Crusaders have had the upper hand in the rivalry, and Thursday night was no different. Miller Hayden scored two goals and Seaton Hixson added another as Sacred Heart defeated PCS, 3-1.
“Great night. I know my kids were amped up and ready to play tonight,” Falla said. “I thought we played very well. Probably our better game so far this year.”
“I’m just blessed to have so much talent. We’re still missing a couple of key players, too. When they get back, we’ll be good to go.”
Sacred Heart’s lone goal came off the foot of Barnes Benton in the second half. Other than that and a few other scoring opportunities, Sacred Heart’s defense shined.
“Tight field. We were able to defend, and that’s the beauty of a tight field,” Falla said. “We’re able to close down on people and keep them from playing. We had a game plan, and we pretty much stuck to it. It worked.”
Sacred Heart improved to 2-1-1 with the win.
“I told them three weeks ago, ‘I see three wins out of us’. We’re at two,” Falla added. “Keeping expectations low and momentum high. Keep it fun and real, and the sky’s the limit.”
Falla’s Crusaders will be back in action next Monday at St. Stanislaus.
PCS, who fell to 1-1, will next face Copiah Academy on Nov. 30.
