PCS opens conference play with sweep of Parklane

PCS opened conference play on the right foot Tuesday night, sweeping Parklane Academy at Rees Gym.

PCS Bobcats 52, Parklane Academy 39

Led by Braxton Henley’s 13 points, the Bobcats fought back from a first quarter deficit and rolled to victory over the Pioneers.

Josh Gonsalves gave the Bobcats a 25-20 halftime lead by nailing a three-pointer at the first half buzzer. Momentum-wise, that turned out to be huge.

“Dr. Tim Elmore talks about the Big ‘Mo. That certainly helped us from a momentum perspective,” PCS head coach Josh Dorman said. “We were able to carry that into the locker room and channel that a little bit. And really come out with a mindset that we were going to grind that out one possession at a time and put ourselves in a chance to win.”

Dorman’s Bobcats outscored the Pioneers, 27-19, the rest of the way.

“We have been really good defensively this year. Offensively at times, we’ve struggled a little bit,” Dorman said. “Tonight we had some big-time plays and big-time shots at critical moments, which allowed us to push out a little bit in the second half to get us a little breathing room.”

Behind Henley, Otoniel Duran finished with 7 points for the Bobcats. Gonsalves (6 points), Alex Essary (5 points), Tyson Keys (5 points) and Clay Smith (5 points) also contributed in the conference-opening win, a big one, says Dorman.

“It’s huge, because this conference is brutal. Every team in this conference is well-coached and has extremely talented players. So any win in our conference is an excellent win.”

PCS Lady Bobcats 40, Parklane Academy 27

Led by three double digit scorers, the Lady Bobcats picked up their seventh win of the season. Kailee Swindle finished with 14 points, while Jillian Rhian (13 points) and Gabby Gallup (11) also contributed.

PCS raced out to a 12-4 lead in the first quarter and did not look back from there, defeating Parklane for their first conference win.
