Purvis will have a new face coaching the boy’s basketball team next season as Matthew Lofton who spent five seasons at Presbyterian Christian School as girls head basketball coach and 14 seasons total with the Bobcats made the move to take over as the head basketball coach for the boys basketball team.

Lofton carried an 84-71 record in his five seasons as head coach for Presbyterian Christian. He spent nine seasons as an assistant head coach for the Bobcats before moving to the head coach role.

He also served as the boys head basketball coach in an interim role during the 2007-2008 season. During the 2019 campaign, Lofton’s team had an overall record of 16-15.

Former Purvis boys head coach Eric Cooper has taken on an assistant coach role at his alma mater, Sumrall.

Purvis boys basketball is coming off the heels of a successful season, going 23-7 overall including a trip to the 4A playoffs and lofty 7-3 district record.
