Presbyterian Christian’s season came to an end last weekend, however, the awards did not stop coming. Thanks to not one, but two 200+ yard rushing performances, the Bobcats Marquis Crosby and Rico Dorsey take home Week 12’s Powerade Co-Players of the Week for the Forrest, Lamar, and Covington County area as they defeated Holmes County (FL) 32-14.
“It was a great feeling seeing both guys go over 200 yards. We knew going into the football game that we needed to run the football. We felt like Marquis was getting healthy at the right time of the year. We lost our quarterback two weeks ago to injury, so we let Rico play quarterback. It turned into a pretty balanced attack. I think they both had over 15 carries. We also had a freshman carry five times. Any time you can run the ball for over 480 yards you’re having a good night. Especially when it comes to about 37 rushing attempts,” said head coach Derek White.
Junior do-it-all athlete Rico Dorsey had 15 carries for 266 yards, averaging 17.7 yards per carry against Holmes County (FL), along with two rushing touchdowns. Dorsey also finished 5-of-9 throwing the ball for 61 yards and a passing touchdown.
Crosby ran for 201 yards on 18 carries. The junior running back averaged 11.2 yards per carry and had two touchdowns. He also completed one pass on one attempt for 43 yards.
White was proud of the way his entire team played.
“We got dealt a tough hand earlier trying to protect our kids. It was nothing they did wrong, but to allow them to go play for something was great. We hadn’t played well and hadn’t had a lot to play for other than pride, it was good to give them something to play for at the end of the year. It was great for our senior players who have worked hard.”
Crosby talked about the experience of traveling to Florida and about his performance.
“It was a good experience and trip. We just wanted to try and get a win for our seniors. I just felt healthier than I’ve been feeling and because of that, I was able to run the ball harder.”
“It went as planned for us. It was wide open and we just went with the flow. We practiced hard all week and stuck to our gameplan. When things opened up for us we were able to make big-time plays. Seeing him [Crosby] go over 200 yards, I wanted to do the same since we push each other. I’m proud of him, and two see us both go over 200 yards felt good,” said Dorsey.
Congratulations to Rico Dorsey and Marquis Crosby, Sports601 Powerade Co-Players of the Week for the Forrest, Lamar, and Covington County area.
