Week 7: Sports601 Hattiesburg Player of the Week

Forrest County AHS got back to their winning ways last Friday night, as the Aggies opened district play with a 44-31 win at Lawrence County.

Senior Nathan Whitley had a lot to do with the victory, the Aggies’ 5th of the season. Whitley rushed for 135 yards, caught 72 through the air and scored five touchdowns (3 rushing and 2 receiving) in the win. For his efforts, Whitley has been named our Sports601 Hattiesburg Player of the Week.

“We went into the game knowing that we had to get a win and start district the right way,” Whitley said of the win. “We really came out with some intensity. The line was on point, and they were getting their blocking assignments done. After that, it was all up to me to make the right cuts and right decisions. Lower the shoulder and get the yards.”

“That’s definitely the best performance I’ve ever had,” Whitley added

The win moved the Aggies to 5-2 overall. They’ve surpassed last season’s total with four games still left to be played. And that’s not including the playoffs, which is very much in reach for these Aggies.

“I think a lot of people came into this season thinking we would be like we usually are. Like a 4-6 team. A team that doesn’t really do much,” Whitley concluded. “I think we’ve definitely improved this year. We’ve been working a lot harder than we usually do. Everybody gets out to practice and ready to go.”

Whitley and the Aggies will play for their sixth win Friday night against Poplarville.
