Seminary got a sniff of what they could have as they represented the south in the 3A State Championship game, but fell to Water Valley 34-28 last season. This season head coach Brian Rials wants to put a stamp on the 2019 season hoisting the championship trophy.
During Friday night’s scrimmage at Hattiesburg, Seminary went 1-1 in the evening’s games. The Bulldogs started with a quick victory over North Forrest, however, they fell to Hattiesburg to end their night. Even though they went .500 on the night, head coach Brian Rials knows there are things that they can work on as they enter the start of the season.
“We know we have a lot of work to do. We had some turnovers early and had plays we need to work on. Some of that is nerves, though, first game back. Overall I am pleased. We will get back and grade it. We know we have a lot of guys we are trying to put in and play. I saw some good things tonight.”
Seminary focused primarily on the run game and getting Jabori Potts time in at quarterback. Potts has been battling during the summer for the starting quarterback role. Rials pointed out how hard each player had worked throughout the summer and into fall practices, even though they have been battling the Mississippi heat for practice time.
“It has been so hot we haven’t been able to practice as much as we would like and that showed here tonight. We are going to get ready, though. We know we have to always get a little better. It starts next week whether we are ready or not.”
Seminary will start their season off this Friday as they face a dangerous Collins Tigers football team from the 2A classification. The Bulldogs will play host and kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
