Here are your Forrest, Lamar, and Covington County predictions as picked by Kevan Lindsey.
Current record: 65-27, 71.43%
Gautier (2-7) at Hattiesburg (3-6)
The Tigers kept their playoff aspirations alive last week defeating Long Beach 55-0. They will need to once again come out roaring this Friday. Players have stated it is “lay it on the line” time. Look for them to continue to do so, and nab their third-straight win. Those Tigers feast on gator tail.
Hattiesburg 44, Gautier 13
Stringer (5-5) at Sacred Heart (0-8)
Sacred Heart’s season is drawing to a close and to say it has not gone well might be the understatement of the century. Stringer, however, just had a dominant Saturday night victory over Sebastopol. This one gets Stringer firmly planted in the playoffs. Hang on, Sacred Heart, soccer season is drawing nigh.
Stringer 52, Sacred Heart 6
Petal (8-1) at George County (6-3)
Can you believe it? Petal sits atop the pile of top teams in Region 3-6A at 5-0 in the region. That’s not a knock on the Panthers, but credit to just how good the region is. George County has been surging, so an upset is possible. However, I believe Marcus Boyles and his beasts at running back will control the tempo like they have the past few weeks.
Panthers lock this thing down.
Petal 28, George County 20
Mt. Olive (5-5) at Richton (5-5)
Hold onto your hats because the Pirates are surging. Mt. Olive are winners of four-straight and have allowed just 32 points in that span. That is huge since they gave up 132 points in the four games before this win streak. If the Pirates can take care of business against Richton, they will lock up their playoff berth. That is a big deal for the little school of Mt. Olive.
Mt. Olive 32, Richton 24
Oak Grove (6-3) at Pearl (6-3)
Another week, another must-win. The Warriors goal is simple here: win and get in. Pearl came into the season regarded as one of the best teams in the state. If you look at this region, it is vicious. Oak Grove was clutch last Thursday in their 36-28 defeat of Brandon. The question is, can they do it again? On paper, many would give the edge to Pearl, but I’m not a paper guy. Damon Stewart, Nick Milsap, and the Oak Grove defense have stepped up when needed and I think they do it again.
Warriors get the win and another postseason bid.
Oak Grove 34, Pearl 30
