BASEBALL IS BACK - in South Korea.
I apologize. Those first three words may have excited you until you read the last three. I should have started the sentence, “In South Korea,” so that, “baseball is back,” wouldn’t have triggered false excitement here.
Seriously, though, if you know of a way to watch baseball in South Korea, let me know. I, like many of you, need some sports to enjoy as we face such a time of boredom.
Luckily, I have an outlet that is both enjoyable to me and follows the CDC's guidelines during this crisis. It's called turkey hunting. To be exact, I, myself, have not turkey hunted yet, but I have filmed several hunts from friends of mine. Don't worry; the six feet rule was practiced.
Hopefully, I’ll get to go myself in the coming week. But to be honest, as much as I want a turkey myself, I enjoy seeing friends get their own and celebrate the excitement with them.
And boy, do I have some storied to tell from the hunts I’ve been on.
The question that still lingers:
Are we going to see spring sports in high school return this year?
I believe that’s the question we’re all asking.
If I had to be honest, I’d say we won’t. But trust me, I could easily be wrong more than I am right.
With school being out till April 17th, and the MHSAA following suit with athletics, that doesn't leave much time till the end of May to get in all district games, as well as playoffs and state championships. Then again, if by April 17th, all of this is under control to where life can get back to normal, the state may extend school into June to make up for the lost time. Once again, not to say that will happen but that its a possibility that's on the table. Some states have already canceled the current school year. But in those states, the situation with COVID-19 is worst than it is here. So, to say that would or could happen here isn't giving all the facts around those decisions.
I'm going to say it because I'm positive it has to be the case: The state education board and the MHSAA have our kids' best interests in mind. Whatever happens will I'm sure be the best decision considering the circumstances. But that doesn't stop me from hoping for the best, and life to be back to normal again.
