Region 3-6A
1. Petal - 6-1, (3-0)
2. Pearl - 5-2, (2-1)
3. Brandon - 5-3, (2-1)
4. Northwest Rankin - 3-4, (3-0)
5. George County - 4-3, (1-2)
6. Oak Grove 4-3, (1-2)
7. Terry - 2-6, (0-3)
8. Meridian - 1-7, (0-3)
Petal had a thrilling win against Brandon that came down to the final seconds. They will head to Northwest Rankin this week to take on the Cougars who defeated George County 35-0. The Panthers have a chance to take a stranglehold on the district with a win. Oak Grove got into victory circle in region play last Friday night against Meridian.
Region 4-5A
1. Picayune - 7-0, (3-0)
2. Wayne County - 5-2, (3-0)
3. Pearl River Central - 3-4, (2-1)
4. East Central - 4-3, (1-2)
5. Pascagoula - 4-3, (2-1)
6. Gautier - 2-5, (1-2)
7. Hattiesburg - 1-6, (0-3)
8. Long Beach - 1-6, (0-3)
Picayune continues to roll with a 48-15 victory over Hattiesburg. Wayne County slipped past East Central 42-40 in a contest that both teams looked dangerous. Pascagoula slipped by Gautier to help their playoff chances. Both Hattiesburg and Long Beach will need to virtually win out if they want to see postseason football.
Region 7-4A
1. Purvis - 5-3, (2-0)
2. Greene County - 4-3, (2-0)
3. Poplarville - 3-4, (2-0)
4. Stone - 1-5, (0-2)
5. Sumrall - 3-5, (0-2)
6. Forrest County Agricultural - 2-5, (0-2)
No teams moved in Region 7-4A this week. Purvis took care of things against Sumrall and is set to have a showdown with Poplarville this week. Greene County took out Forrest County Agricultural 40-0 and look to keep their dominate streak alive against Stone this week. If Sumrall can get healthy enough, they might be able to shake things up in the next couple of weeks.
Region 8-3A
1. Columbia - 7-0, (2-0)
2. West Marion - 8-0, (2-0)
3. Magee - 7-1, (1-1)
4. Seminary - 5-3, (1-1)
5. Jefferson Davis County - 2-6, (0-2)
6. Tylertown - 3-5, (0-2)
Two teams swapped positions this week. West Marion defeated Magee in a close 12-7 game. The Trojans are set to square off with Columbia tonight in a game that is sure to be a classic. This game could very much decide Region 8, but Magee and Seminary are still in the hunt. The Bulldogs took care of Tylertown and have their offense rolling. Jefferson Davis County fell to Columbia and would like to spoil Seminary’s home-stand this week as they visit the Bulldogs.
Region 8-2A
1. East Marion - 5-2, (2-0)
2. Collins - 2-5, (1-0)
3. North Forrest - 3-5, (1-1)
4. St. Patrick - 5-3 (0-2)
5. Perry Central - 2-5, (0-1)
One week can change things. Collins shut out North Forrest to capture their first district victory and vaulted in the power rankings. East Marion holds the number one spot as they blasted St. Patrick 40-17. Perry Central was idle last week, but the Bulldogs are set with a showdown versus St. Patrick this week.
Region 4-1A
1. Lumberton - 6-2, (5-0)
2. Resurrection Catholic - 7-0, (5-0)
3. Stringer - 3-5, (2-3)
4. Mount Olive - 3-5, (2-2)
5. Sebastopol - 4-3, (2-2)
6. Richton - 4-4, (2-2)
7. Leake County - 3-6, (1-3)
8. Salem - 1-7, (1-4)
9. Sacred Heart - 0-7 (0-5)
There was not a single close game in Region 4-1A this past week. The closest game was Resurrection Catholic jumping all over Richton 25-8 as they played Saturday instead of Friday evening. Lumberton defeated Salem 69-6, Leake County, Union, and Mt. Olive all posted shutout victories. With all of the beatdowns, this region just got even murkier as now there are four teams who sit at two district victories, with Salem and Leake County sitting at one district win. Stay tuned, folks. The race to the playoffs is going to be intense.
MAIS District 1-6A
1. Jackson Prep - 7-1, (2-0)
2. Madison-Ridgeland Academy - 7-2, (2-0)
3. Oak Forest Academy - 5-3, (1-2)
4. Presbyterian Christian - 5-3, (1-1)
5. Parklane Academy - 6-2, (0-2)
6. Jackson Academy - 4-4, (1-2)
Every team except Presbyterian Christian picked up wins last Friday night. This week sets up big region games as Jackson Prep and Madison-Ridgeland face-off. MRA has scored 53 points and given up 19 points in district play while Jackson Prep has scored 55 points while giving up 36 points. This will be a great game that many will be watching. The Bobcats will look to get on track as they square off with Jackson Academy, while Parklane and Oak Forest battle for supremacy.
