The Covington County School District coaching staff, and Athletic Directors, Eric Booth (Collins High School), Quantus Durr (Mount Olive Attendance Center), and Brian Rials (Seminary High School), are excited to welcome back to campus student-athletes who participate in high school football and cheer.
Tentative plans are to bring back high school band and high school volleyball in July. Under the guidelines of the Mississippi High School Activities Association and the Mississippi Department of Health, activities will begin summer conditioning on each high school campus. Coaches have adapted their approaches/coaching strategies as well as made preparations and gathered the necessary supplies needed to host the student-athletes.
These supplies include cleaning supplies, PPE, and thermometers to name a few. The number of persons inside the weight rooms and field houses is limited to ten, including staff, and no contact is allowed among student-athletes. Contact between coaches and players and the athletic trainers and players is limited to injury assessment; PPE must be worn by both students and staff during the injury assessments.
The schedule will allow cleaning after each student uses a piece of equipment. Heavy contact items such as doorknobs and restrooms will be cleaned often during sessions as needed. Students are required to bring their water bottles and towels with their names on them.
A weekly disinfecting of the facilities by Complete Environmental and Remediation Company, LLC out of Purvis, Mississippi will be done during June and likely July. These measures are being taken to prevent, to the best of our ability, possible exposure to our student-athletes and staff to COVID-19.
Parents/guardians must sign a permission slip to participate from for their child stating that they understand the possibility of exposure and infection still exists even with these measures in place. The need to make these preparations required the one week delay CCSD set for the return to campus.
Families and our community must understand the efforts CCSD employees are making to provide opportunities for students to participate in some school activities this summer and the safety precautions that are a necessary part of the process.
