Here are your Forrest, Lamar, and Covington County predictions as picked by Kevan Lindsey.
Current record: 29-13
Seminary (4-1) at Purvis (2-3)
Purvis plays host to a good Seminary football team to open district play. The Tornadoes seem to be getting better week-to-week, however, Seminary is back rolling after their first loss of the season two weeks ago. Expect Seminary to gut this one out, but Purvis might give them fits along the way.
Seminary 27, Purvis 16
Pearl (3-1) at Petal (3-1)
The Panthers start district play with a tough test as they play host to the Pearl Pirates. Pearl has defeated some solid teams but fell two weeks ago to Madison Central 34-21, giving up 302 yards rushing. That sounds like a good match-up for Petal’s two-headed monster at running back. Petal grids out a close win.
Petal 21, Pearl 20
Stringer (2-3) at Mt. Olive (1-4)
Stringer is coming off of a big win against district opponent Salem. Mt. Olive needs to get back on track, as it seems like forever since they’ve found a win. Quarterback Jackson Parker should have his way on offense and with sophomore Jared Hosey locking down any Pirates receiving threat on defense, it could be a long game for Durr and his team. Stringer keeps rolling, Mt. Olive keeps searching.
Stringer 35, Mt. Olive 8
Hattiesburg (1-3) at Wayne County (2-2)
Hattiesburg got in the win column with a comeback victory over Jefferson Davis County. Wayne County has had a week to rest and recuperate after being run out of Soso two weeks ago. Tony Vance’s team will face a similar style to what they faced against the Jaguars since the War Eagles are a bit run-heavy. This could be a close one if the Tigers can carry some momentum into War Eagle Stadium.
Wayne County 34, Hattiesburg 27
Forrest County Agricultural (1-3) at Northeast Jones (2-3)
Much like Mt. Olive, Forrest County Agricultural’s lone win seems like a long time ago. With a week off to regroup, they have a chance to get in the win column this week against the Northeast Jones Tigers. If the Aggies can slow down the run game from Keith Braddock’s bunch, they have a chance. If not, it’ll be a long night. Still, I have the Aggies winning this one close. Don’t let me down.
FCAHS 22, Northeast Jones 21
