Led by tailbacks Marquez Pam and Demarrius Turner, the Simmons Blue Devils claimed their third straight Class 1A state title on Friday, defeating Nanih Waiya, 22-20. Pam and Turner combined for 247 rushing yards and three touchdowns for the Blue Devils, who fought back from a 20-6 deficit midway through the fourth quarter.
Turner’s four-yard rushing score with 1:27 left in regulation tied it, 20-20. Pam’s ensuing two-point conversion gave Simmons (15-0) the lead and the win, their 40th consecutive victory.
