OXFORD-Pearl’s quest for its first-ever state football title was completed Saturday night at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Tylan Knight’s four-yard rushing touchdown with 1:06 left to play was the difference as the Pirates defeated Starkville, 21-17, in capturing the Class 6A State Championship. Knight finished 35 yards rushing, while teammate Johnny Winston led the way yardage-wise with 64 and a score.
Pearl finishes their season a perfect 16-0.
Starkville, who was led by Rodrigues Clark’s 175 rushing yards and two touchdowns, finishes 13-3.
