Noxubee County edges East Central in 4A title game

OXFORD-Noxubee County’s reign of dominance over 4A continues.

The Tigers captured their third state title in the last four seasons Saturday night at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, defeating previously unbeaten East Central, 41-35. Armoni Clark threw for 472 yards and three touchdowns in leading Noxubee County, who finishes 11-4.

East Central, playing without superstar tailback Tony Brown for much of the game, led 28-14 at halftime. Noxubee County seized control in the second half, eventually taking a 41-35 lead on a Clark-Maliek Stallings touchdown connection with 3:33 left in the game.

Brown, who reportedly suffered a separated shoulder in the game’s second quarter, still finished with 108 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Cameron Gray filled in for Brown in the star role and finished with 203 yards on the ground.
