Mitch Cobb led Laurel past Picayune, 53-37. Cobb led the winners with 17 points while Tony Wheat chipped in 14 points and Clarence Darby added 11 points.
Donna Byrd scored 15 points as West Jones defeated Petal, 51-44. Keisha Quinn chipped in a dozen points while Sandy Tolbert added 11 points.

Laurel head football coach Hank Shows resigned to take a coaching position with Northwest Junior College. Shows was 20-12 as the head man at Laurel.

Clarence Darby tallied 20 points in leading Laurel over Northeast Jones. Mike Thornton led NEJ with 15 points.
Melissa Douglas scored 13 points as Northeast Jones rolled past Petal, 50-29.

Alabama has named Gene Stallings as their new head football coach replacing Billy Curry. Stallings signed a five-year contract worth $104,000 a year.
Tim Roberts scored 22 points and Anthony Spinks added 17 points in leading Laurel past Quitman, 77-47.

Shun Jones scored 19 points to lead Heidelberg past Newton, 86-63. Kareem Johnson added 17 points, and Terry Jones added 16 points.
South Jones outscored Petal, 120-82, as Tory John led the way with 22 points. Kenneth Abbey added 18 points while Marlon Heidelberg netted 14 points and Doyle Jordan added 12 points. Shree Berry tallied 16 points and Candice Keyes added 11 points for SJ in a 45-37 win in the girls’ game.
