The NJCAA and Jones College will team up with Samaritan’s Feet on Monday, Feb. 17 during the final home basketball doubleheader of the year against Mississippi Gulf Coast to promote Annual Barefoot Coach Awareness.
“We are excited to be involved in this nationwide effort and hope to receive heavy participation by our member colleges,” NJCAA President & CEO Dr. Christopher Parker said. “Addressing this worldwide problem teaches our teams and our community lessons that go beyond the game of basketball.”
Fans are encouraged to bring a pair of new or slightly used tennis shoes to Monday night’s games at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. to provide children in our community and nationwide with new shoes. Admission is free with your donation.
Monday night is also “Sophomore Night” as we will recognize almost 30 student-athletes who will be playing or performing for the final time at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
Manny Ohonme, co-founder of Samaritan’s Feet, moved from his home in Nigeria to play basketball at NJCAA member college Lake Region State (ND). Ohonme and his wife, Tracie, founded Samaritan’s Feet in 2003.
