HILLSBORO, Oregon – With three weeks until kickoff of the 2019 college football season, eight Jones College sophomores have been named to JCGridiron.com's annual preseason watch list.
All-American running back Kalyn Grandberry and wide receiver Natorian Watts represent the offensive selections for the Bobcats, while defensive linemen James Williams and Chei Hill, as well as linebacker Daylen Gill and and defensive backs Lakevias Daniel, Fred Smith and John David Rutherford stand out on the other side of the ball.
Five of the six preseason nods have already committed to Division I programs in Grandberry (Memphis), Watts (Tulane), Gill (Ole Miss), Daniel (Ole Miss) and Smith (Louisiana-Monroe).
This marks Grandberry's second preseason honor, also named to College Football Yearbook's JUCO Starting Lineup last week. Williams had 10 tackles and 1.5 sacks in his debut season alongside Hill who led the nation with 39 tackles-for-loss to go along with 15 sacks, which ranked second nationally.
Gill was the Bobcats' third-leading tackler with 62 stops, 20 tackles-for-loss and 5.5 sacks. Daniel had seven tackles and an interception in a loaded secondary.
Jones, ranked fourth in the 15th annual Dirty 30 Preseason rankings, opens the season with back-to-back road contests at Coahoma (Aug. 29) and Holmes (Sept. 5).
