ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Bobcats claimed the MACJC South Division co-championship with a 91-58 decision over Copiah-Lincoln here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.

The Bobcats end the regular season at 18-5 overall and 12-2 in the division. No. 16 Pearl River also finished at 12-2, but the Bobcats will be the No. 1 seed in next week’s state tournament because they swept Mississippi Gulf Coast and PRCC split with the Bulldogs.

In the women’s game, the No. 13 Lady Bobcats eased past the Lady Wolves, 81-60. Jones finishes the regular season at 21-2 overall, 13-1 in the division.

Jones will serve as host for the MACJC Tournament Feb. 25-28.

T the Lady Bobcats will play Mississippi Delta at 5:30 p.m. Monday and the Jones men will face Mississippi Delta at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Bobcats 91, Wolves 58

The game was never in doubt as the Bobcats scored the game’s first 11 points.

Jones took a 23-5 lead on a 3-pointer by Winceton Edwards (Oak Grove) from the right corner with 11:07 left in the first half. A 3-pointer by Galen Alexander (Breaux Bridge, Louisiana) put Jones up 41-17 with 4:19 left in the first half.

Another Edwards’ 3-pointer with 1:51 showing gave the Bobcats its longest lead of the half at 51-20. The Bobcats led 51-24 at halftime.

Jones continued to roll in the second half. 

The Bobcats led by as much as 37 points on two occasions with the final being at 83-46 with 5:26 remaining when Brandon Jones (West Jones) scored.

Kenneth Rogers (Starkville) led the Bobcats with 20 points, including six 3-pointers. Edwards had 14, including four 3-pointers. Tirus Smith (Petal) had 13 points, including five dunks. Zachariah Malone (Shady Grove, Louisiana) added 11 points.

Smith and David Gaines Jr. (Wayne County) had seven rebounds each and Michael Williams Jr. (Rayville, Louisiana) had seven assists.

Miles Daniels had 16 points for the Wolves and Damarius Brooks added 13. Co-Lin only dressed seven players.

The Bobcats were 36-of-64 from the field (14-of-35 from 3-point range) for 56 percent. Jones was 5-of-8 from the free throw line.

The Wolves were 18-of-56 from the floor (8-of-24 from 3-point range) for 32 percent. Co-Lin was 14-of-21 from the charity stripe.

Jones outrebounded Co-Lin, 38-36. The Wolves turned the ball over 21 times, compared to 12 for Jones.

Co-Lin ends the season at 11-12 overall, 4-10 in division play.

No. 13 Jones College 81, Co-Lin 60

The game was close early.

The Lady Wolves led 8-4 midway through the first quarter and would hold a 15-14 lead after the opening 10 minutes.

Jones took the lead for good when LaMiracle Sims (Moss Point) scored off an assist by Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) to open the second quarter and make it 16-15.

A Keyara Jones’ (Heidelberg) 3-pointer at 3:47 gave Jones its biggest lead of the first half at 33-22. The Lady Bobcats led 38-29 at halftime.

Jones expanded the margin and took its longest lead of the third quarter when Keyara Jones made a 3-pointer to make it 57-43 with 31 seconds left. The Lady Bobcats were up 57-45 entering the final period.

The Lady Bobcats took its longest lead of the game when Kyia Weathersby (Collins) made two free throws with 3:51 left to make it 74-52.

Keyara Jones led the Lady Bobcats with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Ducksworth and Weathersby added 15 points each.

Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) had six rebounds and six blocked shots for the Lady Bobcats. Ducksworth had six assists and Lekera Hughes (Oak Grove) had five assists.

Tamara Riley had 16 points for Co-Lin and Sha’Quandra Carter added 13.

The Lady Bobcats were 29-of-68 from the field (7-of-15 from 3-point range) for 43 percent. Jones was 16-of-24 from the free throw line.

Co-Lin was 20-of-56 from the field (3-of-14 from 3-point range) for 36 percent. The Lady Wolves were 17-of-26 from the free throw line.

The Lady Wolves had 44 rebounds and Jones had 40. The Lady Bobcats had 14 turnovers and Co-Lin had 20.

The Lady Wolves are 18-5 overall and 9-5 in division play.
