Feb. 10, 1970
Jim Murdock and Marvin Smith each scored 15 points in leading Jones Junior High over West Jones, 60-45. In the eighth grade contest Tommy Comer scored 16 points and Jay Fenton added 14 points as Jones won, 42-33.
Willie C. Porter, Dennis Thomas, Harold Terrell and Dennis E. Thomas of Heidelberg High School signed football scholarships with Alcorn.
Wendell Ladner set an NCAA mark with 32 rebounds as USM rolled over Pan America, 103-78. John Vitrano led the winners with 23 points followed by Ricky Ragland and Ladner with 18 points each.
Feb. 9, 1980
Dexter McMillian led Northeast Jones over Quitman, 58-50. Booker Barnes added 16 points. West Jones Lady Mustangs romped over Raleigh, 42-22, as Donna Boyd led the winners with a dozen points.
Feb. 7, 1990
Heidelberg rolled over Kemper, 85-69, as Shon Jones and Kareem Johnson each scored 19 points.
Joseph Cooper scored a game high 19 points in leading Wayne County over Quitman, 74-47.
Tracy Lampley tallied 16 points and Robert Morgan added 14 points in the win. Antonio McDyess led QHS with 15 points.
Casey Powe and Brook Ross each scored 15 points and Shelly Graham added 14 points in leading Wayne Academy over Sylva-Bay, 71-32.
Feb. 10, 1995
Wayne County head football coach Bubba Davis resigned to take a similar position at Walker High School in Jasper, Alabama. Davis was 14-9 in his two seasons at WCHS.
