September 11, 1999  
Brandon Herrington recovered a fumble in the end zone with five seconds to play in the game to lead South Jones to a 29-21 win over Hancock. Charles Hales scored twice on runs of 45 and 79 yards, while Rashard Phillips scored from four yards for the Braves.  

Laurel defeated Washington High School of Pensacola, 27-18. Ryan Earnest ran for 122 yards, while Troy Wolverton passed for two scores. Washington’s head coach was Chet Bergalowski.   

Bay Springs and Heidelberg Academy won the county championships with wins over Heidelberg and Sylva-Bay. Celesta Bolton scored twice for Bay Springs to lead the Bulldogs to a 28-0 win. Scotie Chambers and Zack McCrudy also scored the Bulldogs.  Brett Dabbs ran for two scores, and Derek McKee ran and passed for TDs in the Rebels 51-0 win over Sylva-Bay. Scott McInnis, Chan Poore and Matt Windham also scored for the Rebels. 

September 12, 1994

J.J. Thigpen ran 83 yards for a TD in leading Jones past Pearl Rivers, 24-23. Eric Hines also rushed for a four-yard score while quarterback Ted Ducksworth hit Fred Page Wilson on a 31-yard TD pass. Jade Stilling added a 31-yard field goal for the winners. 

September 15, 1969 

The defending national champion Jones County Junior College opened their season with a 24-7 win at Itawamba. Quitman’s Larry Mathis led the way as he rushed for 110 yards and scored once on a 10-yard run while Jimmy Evans of Bay Springs ran for a TD.  Former South Jones star quarterback David Cooley threw a 17-yard TD pass to Richton’s Billy Carey. Former Northeast Jones star kicker Reggie Shoemake kicked a 25-yard field goal to go along with three conversions. Bruce Gresham of South Jones led the defense with three interceptions and David Jones of Laurel had a pick. Lonnie Wilson of Collins recovered a fumble for Jones.   

Walter Love defeated Dude Stewart in a playoff to claim the Laurel City Open golf tournament.  

September 15, 1979 
 
Hurricane Fredrick could not stop the Laurel Tornadoes from blowing past the Provine Rams, 33-0. The Laurel defense held the visiting Rams offense to 21 yards on the night. Chip Pickering intercepted two passes, while Lee Cole had a pick and John Seals recovered a fumble. Tracy Phelps ran 19 yards and caught a 28-yard pass from Chris Easterwood for the first score. Alexi Heidlelberg, Frank Wright and Doug Walker had rushing touchdowns for the winners.  

September 16, 1989 

Stan Holifield kicked a 25-yard field goal with 53 seconds to play to lead West Jones over Mendenhall, 3-0.
