Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2019, at Jones and Son Chapel in Moselle for Mr. James Vernon Russell, age 84, of Moselle. Bro. George Moore, Bro. Glen Shoemake and Bro. Bob Robinson will officiate with burial to follow in the Lott Cemetery.
Mr. Russell was born July 1, 1934, in Simpson County to Vernon Russell and Ola Mae Berry Russell. He went to be with his Savior and Lord on June 24, 2019.
He lived from age 6 to early adulthood in Lamar County with parents and two siblings of which he was the oldest. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1951.
James married Lucille Williams June 26, 1954. They remained married until her death in May 2014. He worked as a salesman for Toxie Shoe Store and Sears in Hattiesburg and Sullivan Motors in Collins. In the spring and summers all spare time was spent growing a vegetable garden. He loved giving produce to friends and neighbors.
James made a profession of faith at Calvary Baptist Church at age 16. He was a faithful Christian at New Fellowship Baptist Church in Seminary. He served as deacon and Sunday School teacher and loved leading in song and in singing.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Lucille Williams Russell; parents, Vernon and Ola Mae Russell.
He is survived by his daughter, Charlotte (Dale) Russell Mitchell of Collins; sons, Jimmy (Tywana) Russell and Barry (Alicia) Russell both of Seminary; brother, John E. Russell of Oak Grove; sister, Edna (Paul) Russell Frierson of Pearl River, LA; grandchildren, April (Robert) Fairchild Ellis of Caladonia, MS, Amber (Ryan) Fairchild Fortenberry of Seminary, Weston (Brittany) Mitchell of Collins, Kayla (Shayne) Bradburn of Seminary, Tyler and Heath Russell both of Purvis, Winston and Walker Russell both of Seminary and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Jones and Son Funeral Home of Moselle.
