Alice Armstrong Staten was born January 22, 1955, and passed from this world on May 5, 2020. Alice was the second daughter born to Billy and Elizabeth Armstrong of Morton, MS. She attended school in Morton before attending East Central Community College, Mississippi State University and graduating with a degree in Parks and Recreation at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Alice met the love of her life, Jim Staten in Hattiesburg during the summer of 1977 while giving his daughters swimming lessons at Paul B. Johnson State Park. They married in February of 1978 and began their 31 year marriage before Jim’s passing in March of 2009. Together, Alice and Jim raised two beautiful daughters.

To carry on Alice and Jim’s legacy, are his daughters Suzanne (Keith) Salter of Brandon, MS and Erica (Paul) Feldmann of Lewisville, North Carolina. She was YUM YUM to six grandchildren Ryan, Reed and Julianna Salter and Jake, Natalie and Sarah Feldmann. Alice also leaves two sisters, Ann (L.L.) Dickinson and Martha (B.B.) House along with other nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Jim, Alice is preceded in death by her parents and in law.

Due to the Covid-19, a private family service is being held at Moore Funeral Home Chapel at 1:30 pm on Saturday, May 9th. A graveside service will follow for family and friends at Highland Cemetery. Social distancing guidelines are to be observed at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Alice asked that donations be made to Main Street United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg, MS or to Aldersgate Mission of Main Street UMC.
