Born in Mobile, Alabama on December 19, 1924, Edith (Edie) attended school in Citronelle, Alabama and graduated at an early age to join the workforce. She took her first job during WW II with the Marketing Department of Brookley Air Force Base, where she was involved with the promotion and support of military services. She later worked with Dr. Cornelia Wilcoxson an OBGYN in Mobile, Alabama.

Edie and her husband Pat would have celebrated 55 years of marriage this July. Throughout their years together, Edie and Pat were active in several Mobile Mystic Societies. They were enthusiastic members in many ballroom dancing groups and enjoyed travel. They toured throughout the US in a motorhome and gleefully saw everything there was to see, accompanied by Aunt Sarah and Uncle John. Edie loved all of the arts throughout her entire life. Her home was filled with her large collection of artwork and she also enjoyed going to plays, concerts, plus anything that was fun and included dancing. At 75-years-old she became an acrylic painter and watercolorist. As a prolific reader, Edie kept the local library busy by keeping her supplied with books for her “two books a week” reading quota. She was very well known for her homemade pound cake which she would bake for any occasion, real or imagined. She also loved to play bridge. Always social, she was one of the very first female greeters at Spring Hill Baptist Church on Sundays. Each Wednesday night, Edie regularly welcomed guests at the church supper, and provided candy treats afterward to please the children.

Edie’s grand zest for life kept her always on the go. Feisty but refined, this woman of great intelligence was always perfectly coiffed, and chose lovely outfits to wear that were always appropriate for each occasion. Edie adored people and they adored her. Unforgettable, with her sparkling personality, she engaged with all everywhere she went and was recognized that she was beautiful both inside and out. She held a deep faith in God and loved with all her heart. Her presence will be missed by us all but we are very grateful for having had shared it with her. She is forever loved.
